Well, I've just had a meeting with my financial adviser about my super. Really, I had no idea where my money was. Now I do and I've been told that the investments where reasonably ethical to start with.
First to look for: SRIs- Socially Responsible Investments. Meaning environmental, social and economic consequences are considered as part of the investment assessment process- 'triple bottom line'. I would like my SRI's to include:
No cigarettes, alcohol or gambling.
No Nuclear or Clean Coal and Sequestration (too new and untested).
No deforestation at all!
Respect human rights.
No child labour or sweatshops.
Respect Animal Rights
and more
I thinking more on the line of companies with a climate change policy (reductions of CO2, then offset) ie carbon neutral co.s, renewable energy companies- solar, wind and geothermal. Stay tuned, more info coming.
