5.Slow down on air travel- I love my flying, this is going to be a hard one. Swap your frequent flyer tag for a climate neutral tag, stay longer if you can and increase your telecommunications at home. Just take a moment to consider your air travel. Flying during the day has a slight less impact. Of course our technocrats/ business leaders are busy coming up with more fuel and engine efficient planes. Hurry up!
On Holidays - consider closer destinations, less flights or stay longer if you can. Explore your own country or local area- you may be surprised. Take the family camping and experience roughing it with minimal facilities. Great for getting the kids to appreciate the luxuries at home. Often you have to account for water usage and taking garbage out of national parks..........makes you think about what we get used to at home.
On Business- consider is your trip necessary?- can I do business over the phone or internet? Can I increase technologies in the home or office that may facilitate less travel ie. Skype/ Video conferencing/ phone conferencing and many more.
Offset with carbon credits- lastly offset with carbon credits that have been sourced from energy efficiency projects, investment in renewable energy or planting trees. Also some airlines have carbon offsets built into the price of their tickets.
Note: Did you know that greenhouse gases produced while flying affects the atmosphere much quicker than those produced on the ground where it takes 10 years to reach where the plane dumps it! Oouch!
