We're Not Flat-Earthers!

Flat-Earthers were people who thought the earth was flat when the scientists were saying it was round. The following clip is precious. It is an impersonation of George Bush by Will Ferrell. Great for barbies and dinner parties. You will wet yourself laughing!

A couple of years ago I travelled with my family to Franz Joseph Glacier in New Zealand 25 years after previously being there. Oh my god! I could not even recognize the place- the ice had receded so much- it was brown, dirty and depressing for me personally to see so much difference. The whole global warming thing hit me like a sledge hammer! 

The scientific evidence is over whelming, the impact on the earth is increasing exponentially. Some of the damage already done is irreversible, however we have the ability to stop major damage now. To confirm Sir David Attenborough says we have the evidence, the people want change and now it is up to the governments of the world to get their act together. We are running out of fossil fuel! Simple! We need sustainable energy sources now!

The changes throughout the world are ever increasingly obvious- from the melting of polar caps, glaciers and permafrost. Alterations to ocean currents, temperature, acidity and sea levels. Volatile and erratic weather patterns- drought, storm etc. The list goes on. The effect on the physical planet as well as every species on earth will be affected. The reproductive circles and migratory habits of insects to bears are all over the place. And we are not immune!

There are plenty of books on the subject, internet sites, docos and movies. Especially ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ starring Al Gore, former Vice President of the US. If you haven’t already seen it- it is available at the video store. Click here for website. If you are a teacher- they have fantastic lesson plans downloadable on pdf. for ages 9 and up.

For more detailed information on the effects of global warming and climate change, please go to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC).


Also go to Google Earth to view differences. (Download first, then click on Global Awareness, then select Atlas of our Changing Environment). Particularly devastating are the Pacific Islands that are going under- Carteret, Tuvalu and Kiribati.
